Benedict Cumberbatch To Be (Or Not To Be) Broadcast In Barbican ‘Hamlet’

The Oscar-nominated Imitation Game star (and newylwed following a formal wedding recently on the Isle Of Wight) will play the Melancholy Dane in a long-since sold-out production this summer at London’s Barbican Centre. The director is Lyndsey Turner, best known stateside for last year’s knockout Broadway revival of Sophie Treadwell’s Machinal at the Roundabout Theatre Company. Sonia Friedman is producing the Shakespeare drama (no other casting has been announced yet), which is slated to run August 5 through Halloween, with opening night on August 25. In the latest news about the show, Friedman (The River, most recently) has announced a deal with National Theatre Live to telecast the show to venues around the world beginning on October 15 (dates will vary and encore screenings will follow; details will be posted at Tickets will go on sale on March 16.
